Basic Information
Ben's Hens has been offering Beyond Organic Pasture-Raised Chicken since 2018. Since day one, our goal has been to provide a real, whole, quality, and nutrient-dense Chicken. We have gone through a few different iterations to determine what works best to raise Meat Chickens at 7,200 feet elevation. It has been a challenge, but we are confident that we have the Meat Chickens we set out to produce.
The breed of Chicken we choose to raise for meat is the Cornish Cross. In addition to the CC for 2026, we will test the Pioneer Naked Neck and see how is goes.
We practice Regenerative Agriculture and choose to Pasture-Raise all of our Chickens. As we move them through the pastures, they deposit poop. This feeds the soil, and in return, the pastures give back beautiful grasses and vegetation. We are working with nature to build soil. In other words, we are Soil Farmers.
Base Value Information
Value = Represents the fundamental, intrinsic worth of our products based on their ability to generated future benefits and utility for the accepter. Correlates to redemption of points from your Member Balance.
Because of our 7,200 ft altitude and what we choose to feed them, we require an extra 2 weeks of growth time compared other Pasture-Raised Chicken. This requires more feed and labor.
The Base Value is based on the cost to produce one 4 lb Standard Whole Chicken at 8 / lbs.
Therefore, the following would be the expected Value of 1 Standard Whole Chicken at the listed weight.
4 lbs | 32
4.5 lbs | 36
5 lbs | 40
The following option increases the Base Value by 1 / lbs. This option is generally only available for those who Preorder.
Corn Free / Soy Free: See Feed Information Section.
The following options increase the Base Value by 1 / lbs. These options are generally only available for those who requested different packaging styles with their Preorder.
Spatchcock: Backbone removed and Chicken splayed open.
Pieced: Chicken is cut into separate pieces but packaged together as one.
Individually Pieced: Each Pieced Group is packaged together for multiple smaller packages. A minimum of 4 Preordered Chickens is required for this option.
