Basic Information
Ben's Hens has been offering Beyond Organic Pasture-Raised Duck since 2019. Since day one, our goal has been to provide a real, whole, quality, and nutrient-dense Duck. We have gone through a few different iterations to determine what works best to raise Meat Ducks at 7,200 feet elevation. It has been a challenge, but we are very close to the Duck we set out to produce.
The breed of Duck we choose to raise for meat is the Pekin.
We practice Regenerative Agriculture and choose to Pasture-Raise all of our Ducks. As we move them through the pastures, they deposit poop. This feeds the soil, and in return, the pastures give back beautiful grasses and vegetation. We are working with nature to build soil. In other words, we are Soil Farmers.
Base Value Information
Value = Represents the fundamental, intrinsic worth of our products based on their ability to generated future benefits and utility for the accepter. Correlates to the redemption of points from your Member Balance.
Because of our 7,200 ft altitude and what we choose to feed them, we require an extra 2 weeks of growth time compared other Pasture-Raised Duck. This requires more feed and labor.
The Base Value is based on the cost to produce one 4 lb Standard Whole Duck at 10 / lbs.
Therefore, the following would be the expected Value of 1 Standard Whole Duck at the listed weight.
3.5 lbs | 35
4 lbs | 40
4.5 lbs | 45
The following option increases the Base Value by 1 / lbs. This option is generally only available for those who Preorder.
Corn Free / Soy Free: See Feed Information Section.
The following options increase the Base Value by 1 / lbs. These options are generally only available for those who requested different packaging styles with their Preorder.
Spatchcock: Backbone removed and Duck splayed open.
Pieced: Duck is cut into separate pieces but packaged together as one.
Individually Pieced: Each Pieced Group is packaged together for multiple smaller packages. A minimum of 4 Preordered Ducks is required for this option.
